The Effect of Volunteer Activity on Health and Life Satisfaction

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to analyze effects of volunteering participation activity on the physical, mental and social health, also on life satisfaction ultimately. The 2010 Seoul Welfare Panel Survey were used. The subjects of this study were 6,304 persons.
The analysis procedure is as follows: First, the demographic characteristics of the respondents were analyzed. Second, the descriptive statistics and normality test on volunteering, health, life satisfaction were carried out. Third, structural equation modeling (SEM) was carried out. IBM SPSS AMOS 20.0 was used for the analysis of structural equation modeling(SEM).
Results revealed that volunteer activities showed a positive impact on the health and life satisfaction, and health in relation to the health and life satisfaction had a positive impact on life satisfaction. In addition, there was age difference in the path model of volunteer activities, and health and life satisfaction
From these conclusions it is suggested that volunteer programs suitable for elderly should be developed and operated, and also volunteer activities should be concluded as a part of health promotion program actively.
